IPX water resistance is a rating that tells you how well your earbuds or headphones are protected against water and sweat. The higher the number, the better the protection.
Common IPX ratings
- IPX4 – Protected against splashes of water from any direction
- IPX5 – Resistant to low-pressure water jets (rain or shower safe)
- IPX7 – Can survive immersion in water up to 1 meter for 30 minutes
Most wireless earbuds have at least IPX4, which is enough for rain and workouts. If you need maximum protection, look for IPX7 or higher.
